Technology

Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction is an advanced separation method that uses CO₂ as the extraction medium under defined pressure and temperature conditions.

What is supercritical CO₂?

Above its critical point of 31.1 °C and 73.8 bar, carbon dioxide enters a “supercritical” state — it diffuses like a gas and dissolves like a liquid. Solvating power is tuned through pressure and temperature; when pressure drops, CO₂ separates from the extract.

Key process characteristics

No organic solvents

CO₂ replaces organic solvents such as hexane.

Low temperature

Heat- and oxygen-sensitive carotenoids are processed under gentle conditions.

Tunable selectivity

Pressure and temperature are adjusted to the target compound.

Closed loop

CO₂ separated in the separators is recovered and reused in the system.

Planned process flow

  1. 01

    Raw Material Prep

Drying and milling of carotenoid-rich plant materials.

  2. 02

    SC-CO₂ Extraction

    Extraction on a 4 × 1,000 L line, without chemical solvents.

  3. 03

    CO₂ Recovery

Separators recover CO₂ and recycle it in a closed loop.

  4. 04

    Formulation & Packing

    Standardisation and food-grade packaging.

  5. 05

    QC & Dispatch

    HPLC laboratory analysis before dispatch.

Analytical quality control

The facility plan includes a quality control laboratory with HPLC and industrial laboratory instruments. Purity and content analyses will be carried out before dispatch; actual performance values will be published from operational measurements.
